- I started to get creative in week 1 when we had to design our own Kia car through a brief, but had to stick to the dimension of the Kia car. So I started to look at similar cars around the field and looked at what worked and on what shape of car. Then deciding either the curtain features of the car where feminine or masculine. I proceed to apply the features on the outline of the car too see if the features worked for what I wanted to achieve. I like to be most creative on the front end of the car i.e. Headlights, grill. I believe they are the most predominant features of the car. They are something that can identify a car by the shape and something is not the same on every car. I like to get creative with the front end because that is where you can change the identity of the car. So I start with the headlights and change the shape to a concept design that makes the car unique, with the grill and air intakes adds to it. Then this gives the car a unique and concept look. The back end will replicate something similar to the front to give it symmetry. The side view is where you have limited features to work with you just have body shape to change however you can do a lot with this. I like to long swooping elbows that connect the front headlights and the rear wheel arch this gives the car a fluid feel to it so its nice round shape and this will appeal to the female market. However for the male market the elbow to fade out into the body panel to give a edgy sports look with air vents. There are many things that make it difficult to be creative but the main difficulty is deigning something that is practical and the engineering correct. If you have created this nice looking elbow of the car, which is the main side feature, and the window mechanism does not work in it so you have to redesign and the design becomes plain and boring. Also with the front headlight if the casing does not house all of the lights, like it dose not house the fog lights they have to be added to the base of the front and that changes the car design. I am not creative when i have been designing cars all day and all my ideas have gone into several cars and when I design the next car it starts to look like the previous designs. I struggle to be creative when I am tired so I look at different designs and combine ideas together. I find it extremely hard to stay focused because of my dyslexia so i get distracted and then i can't think of designs because my mind is thinking of other things. I can be more creative with my designs if I take inspiration from other fields of design not just car designs or automobile. Stop thinking about how the end product will just look just design what I like and thinks looks good for that shape of the car and if it don't work i can tweak the design so it works.
