Development

- I have few weaknesses because I have not wanted to do be a designer of cars I wanted to go down the modelling rout of design. So when I started designing at the start of the course I knew the concepts of how a car is designed however my hand and wrist and drawing technique was not trained to be a designer. I struggle with my line work, I find it had to create a fluid straight line because I sketch a line with lots of different little lines I have picked this bad habit up from my Art and Design background when I drew abstractly. Line weight I have a tendency to make all the lines the same weight and width so there is no focal point of the drawing. When I am sketching I can not pick a defined line because of how many lines there are due too my sketching style so that’s when I enhance a line and then they all become the same line weight again. I have a struggle with constantly drawing a straight line I can draw a straight line in one stroke but the next it veers off track. I feel like I have a good understand of how a car is designed in the whole process not just the ideas, from design to modelling to production. So what is relevant to design and how it will look in modelling. I like to draw still like objects in a abstract style to make them look like they are moving or in motion. So this will help me drawing in a different style that will give the first idea and design a different style and allowing me to think outside of the box and allows the design become artistic. However when it comes to presenting the final design this could work against me because the design could not be accurate enough to present to the modellers so they an work from the drawing. However I have always specialised in modelling I have some experience in clay modelling I have done half a side of 1/4 scale model at home. My main inspiration came from a artist/modeller called John Chamberlain who creates sculptures out of old muscle car body parts. I have found this can help me by it will allow me understand different parts of a car and I could then create a unique body shape from the sculpture. I am finding the course good but challenging because its the first time I have looked at car design however I am keeping up with the work load because my foundation course was the same amount of work or even more and I managed it and came out with what I wanted. However with living at home I am finding that i am having to do all the work in the studio because I live at home so I have the distractions at home where then I will not concentrate on my work. I am compensating for this because I am coming into Uni 5 days a week to make sure I am keeping up to date with my work.  I am changing how I look at cars because I have a more understanding on how they have been design. I look at simple plain designed cars now and realise there has still been a lot of work gone into the design even though there isn't much to the design. I also look at and think how I could change curtain features and body shape to make it look better design. I have changed my drawing style to make my lines more fluid as well so I can have a cleaner final design. To become a good designer I would have to keep up with trends in the industry so my designs are relevant and trendy and always coming up with unique designs when designing a new car not just a face-lift. I have always been influenced by sculptures how they were sculpted were they either done from eye or a drawing through a design brief.
