Problem & Solution
- I have encountered many problems during this semester like line
weight, line fluidity, ellipses and circles. To overcome line weight I was
given a brief to just focus on line weight so there would be one focal area of
the car and the lines would fade out as they moved away from that focal point.
I achieved this when I focused on lie weight however once I felt I was
confident on it I went back to designing. Once I focused on my line work i.e.
getting a nice straight line i would forget about my line weight so all the
lines looked the same. So I worked round this by drawing the outline and all
the features of the design very lights with the though of line work in mind
then once I was happy with the design I would move onto creating a focal point
on the car so I would darken the areas in the focal point and fade them out. To
improve on my line work I did some drawing excises of creating a straight line
from dot to dot with one pencil movement and then with circles I would draw
different sizes and ellipses and different shapes. Once I had completed a
design that I liked I would not add alloy wheels to it because I was afraid of
wrecking the drawing so I would leave the wheel blank, which left the design
look unfinished. I overcame this by looking at other designs and realised I
didn't have to draw a realistic wheel design just something that would show
that there is a wheel there, so I draw a generic style on it. This is the same
with the headlight is would leave the case bare and I wouldn't add detail to
the design until I had a chat with Alan and he told me that I would have to
insinuate there is something in there not draw a photorealistic object. When we
started rendering I was not sure how to use the markers and how to blend them.
So I watched the videos that were available to me and then I practised on just
blending the colours together. I was confident on blending the colours together
I wasn't sure how to use the markers I though they were used to show shadow
instead of showing reflection off the surface of the car. I was getting
confused with the concept that not showing the gradient I am showing the
reflection of the car. I was putting a whole base down of C0 over the car then
I would work off that to show reflection, but then the end product was too grey
so this didn't show the correct direct reflection from the sun. So I stopped
applying a base layer and I identified the direct reflection to the sun and
left it blank and then the ground reflection and worked from there. Once I had
finished my rendering I found that my line work was too heavy and this was
dominating the design and not the rendering. I was finding on my own designs
that I was making the design 2D so there was not lip on the window screen when
it joins the bonnet and on the grill so it was making the drawings unrealistic
and not achieving what I wanted it to. When I design my own design I find there are mistakes in the body shape so I will correct them on the original design and then I will overlay it and start to draw the headlights, girl, etc. This helps be get a development of the car. Rather than if i mess up on the final design which is on one piece of paper I would have to restart all over again.
