Design Manifesto

- There are many points that makes a good automotive design. i.e. good creative design by the design team with it being drawn well with nice line work with good rendering skills, so the modellers can work from the design. Then this leads onto having a good relationship with all aspects of the design team to modellers and the CAD designers. If there isn't a good relationship in the studio there will be no communication and the design will not design to its full potential and the design process will take longer than a good relationship. Someone that will take charge like the lead designer to make the final  decision between the design. A team that can keep to time scales and that can work to there full capability within a time scale. If you are running behind time your release date will be pushed back and within the competitive market another car company might of beaten you to the market and that will effect the company on how much they sell in the market and that will be down to th...

Problem & Solution

- I have encountered many problems during this semester like line weight, line fluidity, ellipses and circles. To overcome line weight I was given a brief to just focus on line weight so there would be one focal area of the car and the lines would fade out as they moved away from that focal point. I achieved this when I focused on lie weight however once I felt I was confident on it I went back to designing. Once I focused on my line work i.e. getting a nice straight line i would forget about my line weight so all the lines looked the same. So I worked round this by drawing the outline and all the features of the design very lights with the though of line work in mind then once I was happy with the design I would move onto creating a focal point on the car so I would darken the areas in the focal point and fade them out. To improve on my line work I did some drawing excises of creating a straight line from dot to dot with one pencil movement and then with circles I would...

Development

- I have few weaknesses because I have not wanted to do be a designer of cars I wanted to go down the modelling rout of design. So when I started designing at the start of the course I knew the concepts of how a car is designed however my hand and wrist and drawing technique was not trained to be a designer. I struggle with my line work, I find it had to create a fluid straight line because I sketch a line with lots of different little lines I have picked this bad habit up from my Art and Design background when I drew abstractly. Line weight I have a tendency to make all the lines the same weight and width so there is no focal point of the drawing. When I am sketching I can not pick a defined line because of how many lines there are due too my sketching style so that’s when I enhance a line and then they all become the same line weight again. I have a struggle with constantly drawing a straight line I can draw a straight line in one stroke but the next it veers off track. I fe...

Creativity

- I started to get creative in week 1 when we had to design our own Kia car through a brief, but had to stick to the dimension of the Kia car. So I started to look at similar cars around the field and looked at what worked and on what shape of car. Then deciding either the curtain features of the car where feminine or masculine. I proceed to apply the features on the outline of the car too see if the features worked for what I wanted to achieve. I like to be most creative on the front end of the car i.e. Headlights, grill. I believe they are the most predominant features of the car. They are something that can identify a car by the shape and something is not the same on every car. I like to get creative with the front end because that is where you can change the identity of the car. So I start with the headlights and change the shape to a concept design that makes the car unique, with the grill and air intakes adds to it. Then this gives the car a unique and concep...
